Songs to Know: OCTOBER

YAY! WHO DOESN’T LOVE GOOD MUSIC?! NO ONE. SO HERE WE GOOOOO

Listed in no particular order, these songs captured my attention right from the beginning. They’re catchy and you probably haven’t heard them on repeat…YET! [not to say radio hits aren’t awesome 🙂 ] I bring this list to you a little late (mid-October), but there’s still half a month left to listen to them, so I hope you enjoy!!

1.

Goodbye
Artist: Who Is Fancy

A nice rhythm and easy to sing along to, this jam by Jake Hagood has been on all of my playlists since it was released at the beginning of the year. “I know that I can find somebody, you won’t ever find nobody else like me” is just one of the main lines of the song. Take a listen, clap along, and have a good time.

2.

Lay It All On Me
Artist: Rudimental feat. Ed Sheeran

Another one of those songs that grabbed my attention right from the first listen. I’m obsessed with this song, and why wouldn’t I be? Ed Sheeran’s beautiful harmonies and the rhythmic beat continue to tug at my heartstrings. Not too fast paced, but also not a slow ballad. It rests somewhere in the middle of the spectrum, with a slight resemblance to  “Photograph.” Another plus: the piano in the background ❤ I rate it a definite 5 stars!

3.

Mine
Artist: Phoebe Ryan

Also recommended by Taylor Swift, this song is a bit more high-pitched than the others, but not in the irritating way. Just upbeat enough for a rainy day, you could easily rock a two-step dance to this! Conveying a message of staying strong despite heartbreak, she boldly sings: “I’ll pull it together and fix myself eventually.”

4.

Seventeen
Artist: Alessia Cara

Not climbing the charts like “Here,” this song off Alessia Cara’s debut EP really should be up there too. It has the same vibe, but she sings about how much we’d like to go back to the past and not grow up too fast. Also contains a deep beat, you’ll be moving and grooving to it in no time. Side note: The music video provides a carefree and funny aspect to the song. Prepare to smile and have even more fun!

5.

Electric Love
Artist: BORNS

The music video is actually pretty popular with almost 2 million views, and yet I’ve never heard it on the airwaves 😦 . A chilly, but electric (see what I did there?) singer, Garrett Borns creates music that’s great for alone time AND hanging out with friends! Be ready for some “lightning in a bottle.”

6.

Lush Life
Artist: Zara Larsson

Before I begin, let me just say that her other tune “Uncover” is fantastic as well! “Lush Life” has a subtle tropical feel, so feel free to move your hips and jam out. Not too much to say, JUST GO LISTEN!

7.

Shine
Artist: Years & Years

IN LOVE. Just like “Kings,” the background music is already enough to get me hyped up. And then the higher notes kick in, and I can’t handle all the overwhelming excitement I have. Best enjoyed at LOUD volumes (or quiet volumes, that works too) 😀 . Check out their album Communion today!

8.

Rich Kids
Artist: Bea Miller

Making major moves since her X Factor days, Bea brings us a track that most can find relatable. Simply from the title, you could probably guess what the song is about. Loaded with guitar and drums, the pop/punk feel fits perfectly. We want what we don’t have, but always remember, in the end, there’s more to life than money.

9.

Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself
Artist: Jess Glynne

Just one of the many amazing tracks on her new album, Jess Glynne has come a long way from “Rather Be.” A powerful voice, she takes control of the song and reminds us that “everyone trips and everyone falls.” Yes, it most definitely is catchy and upbeat, but the best part is that it brings up the importance of the individual and knowing who you are. Fun and relatable, go Jess!!

10.

Worse Things Than Love
Artist: Timeflies feat. Natalie La Rose

Here’s another song that makes me happy everytime I hear it. The retro-ish feel and smooth rhymes make it that much better. The chorus is infectious (plus Cal hitting those high notes) and not to forget to mention the rap is so much fun to follow along with! If you don’t know who Timeflies is, get to know them NOW! For more artists who are pop/rap , check out Jake Miller, Outasight, Kalin & Myles, Hoodie Allen, MKTO, etc. There are many more, but I’ll start you off slow 🙂 P.S. You can probably tell this is one of my favorite genres!

11.

Jackpot
Artist: Jocelyn Alice

I cannot believe this song came out Dec of 2014! TWENTY. FOURTEEN. And I just came across it 2 months ago?! Wow. Not a generic pop song, this shows that Jocelyn Alice is another up and coming Canadian singer! I dare you to not find the beat surprisingly catchy.

12.

Not A One
Artist: The Young Wild

The currently 87k views for their Youtube video doesn’t do them justice. I first heard their music at a concert at my college and I immediately became a fan; THEY ARE AMAZING LIVE. The clapping and crowd singing that begin the song and run throughout add to its fabulosity. Yes, that’s a word of my creation, but they deserve such an adjective. Fingers crossed for their continued growth and success. I can’t wait to see what’s next.

Hopefully, you found this post useful and are hurrying to make your new playlist right this moment! My hope is to keep y’all updated once every month with ten or so of my favorite songs and also to increase awareness of artists that aren’t household names. If you have any recommendations/suggestions for me, I’d love to hear from you! So send them my way. The more the merrier!
